Oshi
9/20 - Update - Take a look at the latest video of our girl Oshi - Linda has her trained to run to her chair for her meals. Such a good girl!
~~~~~
9/7 Update - Oshi is doing great - up to 19 pounds - check out the 2nd video below! Thanks to everyone that has donated to help us help her!
~~~~~
8/26 Update - Oshi is doing well with his foster, he’s gained a couple pounds in the weeks since he got new medicine, new feeding schedule, and the Baily Chair.
~~~~~
8/12 Update - Oshi’s Bailey Chair came this week - a huge THANK YOU to The Buffy Chair Project for having it made for her and donating it! It will take a little getting used to, but we’re committed. She went to the vet this week and got meds prescribed and her blood work looks OK for a pup with her condition, but (there’s always a BUT)… she has hookworm and Coccidia to fight now too. She is eating, playing with her siblings and doing the best she can. Thanks for the prayers everyone and donations from Melissa, Linz, Caren, Lisa and her mom!!!
8/9 Update - Oshi’s had a couple rough days, but her foster is committed to doing what is needed for her. She is not gaining much weight, and needs sub-q fluids for dehydration, as she cannot tolerate water. We will continue to pay what we need to, to give her a chance. She is starting sildenafil to help with moving food into her stomach quicker. Her visit and medicines were just shy of $400, with $300 of that donated - thank you so much!
8/3 Update - Slowly but surely, we are learning what works for Oshi (Lowe) so she can live her best life.. NO water, dog food meatballs and Knox Blox seem to be doing the trick. Wrangling everyone in before the next storm…see video below.
~~~~~~
8/1 Update - Oshi (AKA Lowey) is doing so well with her foster siblings, her fosters have learned so much about this condition and appreciate all the help they’ve gotten from others that have/had dogs with this condition. Oshi is very sweet and very loved and we will see her through this journey with megaesophagus!
~~~~~~~
7/28 update - The ME support groups have been a life-saver and Linda and family have been making Oshi “meatballs,” which are working much better than the slurry. Vet visit tomorrow to get some medication that we think will help.
~~~~~~~
After having a barium X-ray and consult for 2nd opinion, Oshi does, in fact have megaesophagus (ME)- surgery isn’t an option. There is no peristalsis happening with her, so current fosters (who are falling in love with this amazingly sweet girl) and the resident dogs will take the best care of her at the Fink Foster Home, until we find an adopter or medical foster.
Linda is working hard to find what works best for her, for feeding, etc., which is new to all of us. Her husband made a chair/bucket for her to eat from. A huge thank you to UCB Buffy Project , for donating a bailey chair for her. We also joined several groups to learn about this condition and how to best take care of Oshi.
Her food is currently a prescription food A/D. If anyone would like to donate some it can be called in and purchased at Greener Pastures 814-333-4241 or Center Vet Clinic 724-375-7026.
Oshi will always need fed in the upright position and remain there for up to 45 minutes. She can not drink water nor eat food like a normal dog, but besides that she is a sweet soul, her face melts my heart, Linda loves her so very much.
Any donation big or small is always appreciated.
