Oshi’s Update

Sadly, our girl Oshi is having issues eating. She is only 13 pounds, her sister Mae is 23. She was regurgitating everything that she tried to eat, we took her to our vet, Greener Pastures, today.

She has a condition called Persistent Right Aortic Arch (PRAA), also known as vascular ring anomaly or vascular compression of the esophagus, is a congenital cardiovascular disease in dogs that occurs when the aorta is abnormally rerouted. We are getting a 2nd opinion at Blue Pearl (Pittsburgh), as they would have to do the surgery to correct this.

This girl deserves a chance, the success rate of this surgery, if done early is 80-90%, the cost of today’s visit was $384 and the cost of her surgery will likely be upwards of $5000. We will know more after her visit with Blue Pearl, if the esophagus has already been damaged.

She will be going to Linda and her family tomorrow - she has to be fed in the upright position and held that way for about 30 minutes after eating. She did keep down the special A/D food this evening. About 30ml so far. That's the most she has had in probably a long time.
